Charlton Motel is now cohesively redesigned under new management, enriching the local landscape and hospitality. Our style remains undeniably Aussie and conventionally Charlton. With its cream brick and large arches, Charlton Motel showcases a unique charm that embodies the town's dominant influence. Conveniently situated on Calder Hwy, on 3 acres of beautifully landscaped land, the motel is positioned between Melbourne and Mildura, offering a strategic location for travelers.

Located approximately 1km from the Charlton town center, Charlton Motel provides easy access to all the amenities and attractions the friendly river town has to offer. Nestled in the valley of the Avoca River, amidst the last hillocks of the Victorian highlands, Charlton enjoys a climate that embraces hot, dry summers and mild to cool, wet winters.

Charlton is an attractive tourist destination with a plethora of charming places to explore. Established in the late 1800s as a grain-growing area, the town warmly welcomes visitors from across Australia and the world to immerse themselves in its natural beauty, rich heritage, and warm hospitality. With its agricultural roots, Charlton offers the quintessential country experience that will be further enhanced by your stay at Charlton Motel.

Avoca River

The Avoca river has witnessed significant transformations in Charlton City, beginning with the original owners of the land, the Dja Dja Wurrung people. Then came European settlements in the 1850s,  population growth and expansion of farming to date. It is a favourite Aussie holiday destination today. The Avoca River walking track offers a beautiful view of the river capturing glimpses of local birdlife. The Rotary Park beside the river provides picnic tables and undercover BBQ facilities. It is an excellent place for cycling.

Charlton Golden Grains Museum

The museum is situated in the former Mechanics Institute building. As a result of the Shire Council's forming the museum committee, the museum was established in 1973 to collect and preserve historical objects, articles and photos relevant to Charlton & the surrounding districts. It also has a collection of newspapers dating back to 1878, and it continues to thrive due to the generosity of the local farmers and community.

The Rex Theatre

The Rex Theatre was built in 1938 and is the last unscathed purpose-built cinema in Victoria. Even after getting affected by floods, the building remains in its original state and provides cinema and live performances for rural and regional communities in northwestern Victoria.

The Rex Theatre is entirely driven by dedicated and friendly volunteers of the Charlton and surrounding communities. The theatre celebrates the heritage and is the home of many artefacts from older cinemas that have been demolished. It gives an experience with a blend of the glamour of the past with today's technology. The Charlton Film Festival is held at the Rex Theatre every February.
